Wire harness work instructions are a customized mix of standards, best practices, testing routines, and assembly procedures to facilitate an efficient manufacturing process. Creating and managing work instructions is typically a time-consuming, manual, and error-prone process. Harness Builder for E3.series introduces an assistant to augment the work instruction creation process and automate time-consuming tasks.




Assembly Dash Numbers

Harness Builder for E3.series introduces Dash Number functionality to improve modular design management of a harness. Design teams save time by eliminating the repetitive task of drawing multiple variations of the wire harness to represent minor changes. For instance, connectors and cable protection part numbers may vary based on harness requirements, or the length may vary based on product size. Reports like the B.O.M. capture the defined permutations of the wire harness including a summary of all dash configurations.


New Testing Machine Outputs

Harness Builder 2021 for E3.series expands the support for 3rd party automated wire harness testing machines. Test machines exports include options to drive test platforms from CKT Technologies and the Nexeya MPT2 Tester.

  • A dash setup can include multiple variables for parts and segment lengths.
  • The variables are assigned to devices and segments in the drawing.
  • External set-up and reuse of dash number configurations are possible with the help of CSV files.
  • The Excel B.O.M. details all dash configurations and a summary of all dash number variables.
