Tech-Tip: Exporting Multiple Unplaced Groups
A modular electrical design comes with its own set of unique challenges. However, the basic principles of the solution are the same. With this in mind, let’s think modular when it comes to a modular design.
In this Tech Tip, I describe the steps to import 2D DXF drawings provided by a connector manufacturer into E3.series Database Editor for use as a connector symbol’s graphic, as well as how to scale and orient the imported graphic so it can properly represent the connector.
The mechanical model often drives the electrical design for placement and wire routing. There are multiple M-CAD tools used to author the 3D designs like Dassault Systemes CATIA/SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Creo, Inventor, etc. An important part of a successful electrical design process is the collaboration between electrical and mechanical design principles. Zuken’s E3.series tools have enabled this collaboration with much success.
Top 10 Blog Posts of 2019 – Only the best of the best. With 2020 right around the corner, we like to take a look back and see how we did in the last year. We pulled some numbers and looked at what the most popular posts published in 2019 were. We hope you have a happy and safe New Year! Keep in touch – we are excited to show all we have planned for 2020!
E3.Enterprise system administrators and users alike may find benefit from this video that provides a scripting method to produce a timestamped report file containing E3.series multiuser project data that can be opened in Microsoft Excel and sorted. This may be particularly helpful when preparing for a software upgrade to the E3.series system in order to prioritize which multiuser design projects are most critical to upgrade first over a migration weekend.
The season to be jolly is just around the corner. We are getting ready to open up our favorite gifts and sip hot cocoa around the fireplace. E3.series users had a lot of reasons to be jolly with the 2019 update bringing in a ton of features and updates. The updates in E3.series 2019 cover the breadth of the solution and there is something for almost every aspect of the design suite. The best sentiments to describe the overall release are ‘intuitive’ and ‘efficient’.
Reducing costs, increasing productivity and ensuring quality – this is the wisdom that every management consultant in the manufacturing industry has in their briefcase today. In fact, over the past two decades, the industry has allocated significant budgets to achieve these goals. At the same time, companies often overlook money that is literally lying on the shop floor in the form of obsolete paper-based transitions to manufacturing – in particular in the areas of electrical engineering and assembly.
This video will show step by step instructions on how to create a basic Panel Model and insert a 3D STEP file.
This video will show you how to create and use subcircuits in E3.series. Predefined subcircuits can be stored in the E3.series database. These subcircuits can be added to your project to complete your circuits. In E3.schematic, subcircuits are inserted intelligently into a drawing.
A great product starts with a great idea and often the pillars of its success are closely related to the design and manufacturing teams. The efficiency of the design to manufacturing process directly corresponds to the profitability and therefore a schematic for an electrical design must be accurately documented and annotated. The Drawing Notes Manager add-on for E3.series aims to make documenting notes and annotations an error-free automated process.
For me nothing bridges the gap between the present and the future more than electric flight. I’ve spent my whole career in the electronics industry and this sector captures my imagination more than any other. These are particularly exciting times for the aerospace industry because, not only is interest in electric flight on fast charge but, with developments in AI, there’s also talk of pilotless flight. Here are some sector updates that have caught my attention in the past few months…
This video shows how to use Microsoft Regedit for creation/removal of E3.series library database connections. Set up in advance, to speed initial startup.

Our climate is changing, and that is evident across the board no matter which part of this beautiful planet you are currently exploring. This is not a debate about who is causing it or how we can change everything all at once. This is an observation and a pointer to the small steps we can take to ensure we are playing our part in the solution.
Zuken has been developing PCB design tools for the automotive market for years. With automotive electronics worth over $200 billion globally, and growing every day, Zuken is preparing for a brave new world of smart cars, and autonomous and electric vehicles.
