E3.series - System, Wiring Harness and Fluid Design

The E3.series platform is widely used for the design of specialized (off-highway) vehicles. With its electrical simulation and MCAD integration, E3.series enables the design of wire harnesses, fluid power, and cabling systems. It encompasses functional design, detailed schematics, wiring, and complete manufacturing documentation.

E3.fluid is the solution for designing and documenting all fluid systems, such as hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling, and lubrication systems. Stand-alone fluid schematics or combined electrical schematics can be developed, allowing mixed fluid and electrical design.

E3.formboard is a complete solution for creating cable harness drawings for manufacturing. Different sheet sizes can be used for manufacturing. Automatic functionality makes the placement, arrangement, and dimensioning of the harness and its segments easier.

E3.formboard is integrated with E3.cable. The logical interconnection data defined in E3.cable is used directly in E3.formboard, and any changes made in either module are automatically updated.

The Component Cloud for E3.series complements its database. The libraries are provided directly by the manufacturers of the respective electronic components.

Components and symbols can be created with all additional components like terminals and seal as well as defining signals to all error-free ‘drag-and-drop’ functionality.

Electrical Design For Specialist Vehicles

Engineers working on new designs or updating existing systems rely on accurate, reusable data and information. An intelligent, component-based parts library that ensures only the latest parts are available helps drive design with automatic part selection and simple drag-and-drop functionality.

Objects such as power sources, fuses, switches, complex devices, and loads require simulation to facilitate functional testing. Switches and contacts within the design are controlled by the voltage and current passing through the circuit, simulating real-life operation. As current passes through to the load, the voltage of objects such as lamps or motors can be checked, and success or failure information is fed back to the user.

Specialist Vehicles Design with MCAD Integration

E3.series enables the creation of a digital twin by seamlessly synchronizing data between ECAD, MCAD, and other enterprise IT systems. The versatile workflow in E3.series helps design teams work independently or collaboratively to meet project requirements.

Electrical engineers can collaborate with mechanical designers through a bi-directional interface between MCAD and ECAD. Flattening options simplify the use of a 3D harness model to create formboard drawings for manufacturing.

Fluid Design

Hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling, and lubrication systems driven by electric motors or pumps require integrated fluid and electrical design. Engineers need details and the ability to document their hydraulic and pneumatic designs. These can be developed either independently or fully integrated with electrical control systems within E3.series.

The right-first-time ethos creates a requirement for multiple design rule checks. Design reuse with predefined sub-circuits and automatic assignment of quick connectors to hoses and tubes helps eliminate sizing errors.

Wire Harness Design

Wire harness designers need 1:1 wire harness layout drawings that include connection tables, clips, heatshrink and convoluted tubing. E3.series’ ability to automatically determine wire lengths and calculate the outer diameter of harness segments and branches speeds up the design process.

Automatic selection of connector views and correct terminal selection, including associated items such as seals, backshells, and blanking plugs, are necessary to reduce time and cost and enable a right-first-time approach. Automatic generation of reports, such as bills of materials, helps reduce mundane tasks, automating the process and allowing designers to focus on engineering.
