Meet Our People: Mark, Software Developer

Menu

Meet Mark Mecca. He joined Zuken in 2019, after working in the government, pharmaceutical, and travel industries for more than 20 years. He is a software developer and talented musician who works from his home office in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Recently, he took some time from his busy schedule to chat with me about his experiences at Zuken so far.

Meet Mark: Headshot of Mark Mecca
Mark Mecca, Software Developer

The early years

After graduating from college in 1996 with a degree in computer science, I started working at numerous positions as a network administrator. My real passion was development, so it took me a few years to find the right company and the right job. My development skills and experience grew over the years, and I found myself writing applications for both desktop and web environments.

The Zuken life

In May of 2019, I began my career at Zuken as a software developer. I write scripts, reports, add-ons, and applications used by our customers in conjunction with the E3.series suite of tools. My typical day with Zuken includes reviewing open tasks for development, assessing new project requirements, and working on customers’ requests. Part of the job involves testing and deployment of all the applications and scripts that I develop to help our customers become more efficient and increase productivity. I also have a hand in developing and improving some of our other products, including Harness Builder for E3.series.

We’re all in this together even though we’re miles apart

I enjoy working on the development team, which is a collection of extraordinarily talented and intelligent individuals. Much of my project work is independent, but there are often tasks where the entire team collaborates to find a solution. I know they’re always there for me when I have questions. Since the start of the pandemic, we’ve had weekly video conferences after work hours to hang out and talk – maybe enjoying an adult beverage from time to time! Those get-togethers are fun because I get to know my coworkers, even though we are miles apart.

Talented musician and family man

When I’m not working, my main hobby is my music. I am currently a member of two bands. The first is a duo with a keyboard player and me. The second is a seven-piece full show band. In both groups, I play alto and tenor saxophone as well as background and lead vocals. I also spend a lot of quality time hanging out with my three teenage boys. We enjoy watching all kinds of sports and working on projects around the house together.
