DS-E3: Data and configuration management

The DS-E3 data and process management environment complements the E3.series electrical engineering environment. It is closely integrated with the toolsets and natively manages E3.series engineering project data and libraries as well as the E3.series engineering workflow process. As the DS-E3 functionality is directly embedded into the user interface of E3.series, engineers do not need to leave their CAD application for component search or change and configuration management.

Current, validated libraries, design data and configurations

DS-E3 is Zuken’s next-generation data management system for electrical design data. It provides electrical design and manufacturing engineers with current, validated libraries, design data, and BOM information. With this information, they can manage tasks and workflows for change and approval processes, and support intelligent design configuration and reuse through module and variant management. DS-E3’s powerful design data management functionality is directly integrated into the familiar user interface of Zuken’s E3.series suite. It can be configured individually to reflect the specific requirements of different roles, such as schematic designer, panel layout designer, librarian, or manufacturing engineer. Built on industry-standard object-oriented architecture, DS-E3 is fully equipped to integrate into existing PDM/ PLM and ERP environments, providing a true electromechanical data model with full visibility of electrical designs down to component level.

DS-E3 is Zuken’s next-generation data management system for electrical design data. It provides electrical design and manufacturing engineers with current, validated libraries, design data and BOM information. With this information, they can manage tasks and workflows for change and approval processes, and support intelligent design configuration and reuse through module and variant management.

Library Data Master is the DS-E3 module that manages library information and specifications required for the electrical design process from schematic, fluid and cable plan entry, right up to manufacturing documentation.

The DS-E3 Component Master consolidates material master data such as cost, availability, alternative components and related information such as datasheets, specifications etc., that are typically managed outside the engineering domain in enterprise IT environments. By consolidating this information, DS-E3 enables a significant increase of engineering productivity.

The DS-E3 Design Data Master manages E3.series project data, including options and variants and related postprocessing data, in a controlled environment with comprehensive access control, revision management and analysis functionality.

With its sophisticated configuration management and tracking capabilities, Design Data Master helps to grow a pool of validated functional building blocks from which an engineer can draw from for new projects.

The DS-E3 BoM Data Master generates and maintains accurate component lists that consolidate all associated schematic, wiring and panel layout/wire harness data, component information, documents and assembly drawings within a single environment.

DS-E3 can integrate with all major PLM and ERP systems and provides SOA-based plug & play connectors; in addition, generic integration APIs are available for other third party systems.

Our satisfied customers

Receiving version-proof data from our electrical design team forms the basis of our optimized manufacturing process. Stadler has therefore decided to use DS-E3 for managing its electrical engineering work-in-progress data.

Christoph LeitererHead of Electrical and Software Engineering Tailormade, Stadler Rail

As the demand for our highly disruptive eye diagnostic and measurement products accelerate, scalability is a priority. A key driver in selecting Zuken's E3.series was the ability to add integrated electronic design and data management solutions as we grow. We compared other systems in the market and found Zuken gave us the flexibility and scalability we were looking for.

Dr. Omkar JoshiSenior Electronic Engineer, Eyoto

This distribution of engineers’ time needs to improve for companies to continue to be successful; for optimized development processes leading to increased productivity. In every design project a huge amount of data is generated and, with growing product complexity, this will only increase. So design engineers need access to solutions that allow them to manage large volumes of data and retrieve up-to-date information when it is needed.

Data - The Secret of Success Under Industry 4.0?

Industry 4.0, a.k.a. the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR), is a hot topic because most of us are either taking our first steps in this world, or we’re preparing to. Clearly, earlier industrial revolutions were all about making better use of resources (e.g. burning coal to make steam), people (e.g. workers in factories) and, latterly, electricity and computer-controlled automation. For each revolution, the companies that did well were early adopters of the technology and practices of the day, and they recognised waste when they saw it.
