Insert Text (Project mode)

To add new text to the drawing in Project mode ,

  • select Insert -> Text on the Main Menu bar, or

  • press hotkey T.

The following dialog box will be displayed.

Insert Text

Text type

Defines the type of text.

Text

Text can consist of several lines (a scroll bar is displayed on the right edge of the dialog box). Pressing CTRL+Enter starts a new line.

It is completed by clicking on the OK button on the dialog box.

There is no limit of characters.

Special characters in commentary text are replaced with blank characters.

Hotkeys F3 / F5

F3: Select texts from translation database, F5: Toggle between Edit and Preview mode

In the Language database, in addition to the individual language columns, a column exists called 'Description'. Entries in this column define a 'key' for the other entries. For example, if a specific text entry is too long, you can enter a short 'key word' in the Description column.

These hotkeys are only active, if entries have been made in the 'Description' column in the 'Language' database.

Entering the key word will automatically display the corresponding language text(s) without having to press F3 to open the Translation Table. Pressing OK will place the text in the drawing at the cursor position.

Note

Multi-line symbol text is possible for translatable symbol text.

Multiple-line text from a Promis text database is converted using a script (^ becomes \r\n). It can be edited in the dialog box in Database Editor mode (to enter a line break, you have to enter Ctrl+Ret).

See also Translation Table

F3 / F5 are only possible, when a valid text database is available and at least one language is defined in the Settings.

The columns can be sorted in ascending or descending order.

Allows for selection of text from the text database.

Required text is selected by:

  • clicking in the gray box to the left of the text and clicking on the OK button, or

  • simply double-clicking in the gray box.

Sorting of the text is controlled with Settings -> General -> Language. A modification of the language(s) or reloading the configuration data will update the graphic texts.

Type of Hyperlink

Select the desired type of hyperlink. The following types are available:

  • Internet

  • File

  • Document

  • Sheet

  • Symbol

When changing the entry to <no entry>, the assigned hyperlink will be deleted for the selected text.

Target:

The desired target, to which the hyperlink should point, can be selected from the selection list. One can also select the <marked object> in order to define the marked object as the target beforehand using Mark for Hyperlink.

Click on the push button to open the dialog from which the desired file can be selected. This push button can only be selected if the type File was selected beforehand as the Type of Hyperlink.

Font

Any installed Windows font can be selected for use with graphic text. The Preview: field shows a sample of the selected font.

Note

If characters are not supported in the language defined by the user, select another font in E3.series.

Effects

Select additional effects to be displayed.

Strikeout

'Strikeout' will draw a line through the text string.

Underline

'Underline' will draw a line beneath the base line of the text string.

Opaque

The option 'Opaque' fills the text box with the background color before outputting (in contrast to the Ballooning Rectangle without borders).

If the text is, for example, dragged onto a colored graphic, the text will be placed in the current background color (in this case white).

See example below:

Lock position

This option prevents text that is not assigned to a symbol from being moved. When a symbol with such a text assigned is moved in project mode, the text is moved along with the symbol, but it cannot be separately be moved in relation to the symbol's origin.

When such texts are selected in addition to other objects, it is possible to move but those locked texts are ignored.

This option can also be used for free texts (comment texts) that are not assigned to a symbol.

When displaying such locked texts, optical differences occur. When the texts are selected, the left lower handle is represented by a key icon.

Example:

Note

To move locked objects, press the F key in the schematic while moving and the F key in the panel before moving.

Pictogram

When checked, the translatable passage is displayed as pictogram, if defined.

Ballooning

Arc/Oval/Rectangle/Ellipse

When inserting texts in Project mode, commentary texts can be defined as ballooning texts.

The ballooning text can be displayed within

  • a circle (arc),

  • an oval,

  • a rectangle or

  • an ellipse.

Display subsidiary line to owner

-- This option is only active in Database Editor mode! --

This option defines whether a subsidiary line is to be displayed to the owner. This line (with arrow) always displays the shortest connection between the balloon's edge and the owner's object.

The following applies:

  • If the owner is a pin, the line is displayed to the pin.

  • If the owner is a symbol, the line is displayed to the next corner or center point of one of the rectangle's sides.

  • It is impossible with commentary or sheet texts.

This option is inactive with texts of type 'Text - fix'.

Line

By activating this option, a line is added on the top/in the center/on the bottom of the text box.

Preview

Shows a WYSIWYG representation of how your text will look with the selected options applied. The sample changes as you apply different settings in the dialog.

Variants/Options

-- This option is only displayed, if variants/options have been defined in the project (see Settings -> Variants/Options). --

Selection of the variants/options you want to change in the dialog. Before making modifications, the desired variant/option has to be defined.

Tips and Tricks for Displaying Selected Languages

If characters are not supported in the language defined by the user, select another font in E3.series.

Texts of the translation table can be displayed in certain languages. Entry of "/n" in E3.series directly after the text key or the ID allows to define which of the selected languages will be displayed (&...;/n). As up to five languages can be defined in E3.series, "n" serves as a bit field.
