Creating & Managing Variants/Options

Opening the 'Variants/Options' Tab in the Project Window'

To be able to create variants and options in the project, the Variants/Options tab must be activated, if not yet done, using the View main manu bar and selecting the Variant/Option Windows command.

 

In the following example, the Variants/Options tab is already available. Using the New Variant/Option Window... command another window can be defined.

 

 

The Tree Control Properties - Variants/Options dialog box appears.

 

The dialog allows to define which objects are to be displayed in the Variants / Options tab of the Project window, in which new variants and options, packages and configurations can be created:

 

 

Creating New Variant / Option Groups

To create a new variant or option, select the New Variant/Option command from the context menu selected on the project name in the Variants/Options tab of the Project Window.

 

The Variant / Option Properties dialog box is displayed and the variant/option name and description can be defined:

Defining Activation Type in Properties Dialog

Any number of variants/options can be defined within a group.

 

Proceed as follows:

  1. Create new variant/option:

     

  2. Define the variant's/option's properties:

     

  3. Create new sub-variant/option:

     

    (The definition in Tree Control Properties - Variants / Options determines which objects are displayed or hidden in the Variants / Option tab of the Project window. In this example, only variants / options are displayed.)

     

  1. Define groups or variants

    To create a variant, the option Only one must be activated in the example for Voltage range group:

     

     

    To create an option, one of the options 0 ... n or 1 ... n must be activated for the Voltage range group

     

 

Activation Types For Variant / Option Group

Activation Type for Option Group
  • Must Exist:

    • >If this option is active, this option group must not be deactivated. (e.g. voltage range and operating board ).

 

Activation Types for Variant / Option Groups
  • Only one: defines a variant (e.g. voltage range)

    • Only one variant (one element) can be activated within the group.

       

      Note:

      If the check box Show information for option combinations (under Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Cores/Wires in the section Core Assignment Procedure callable) is active, the selection field Only one is shown greyed out.

       

  • 0 … n: defines an option group (e.g. operation pressure)

    • All options can be deactivated.

    • Several options can be activated within the group.

  • 1 … n: defines an option group (e.g. operating board)

    • If the group is group is active, at least one option must be active.

    • Several options can be activated within the group.

Multi-Level Variant/Option Groups

Any nesting level is possible for multi-level variant/option groups. Different activation types can be mixed. Any number of variants can be defined within a variant group. These variants can be activated independently from one another.
