Terminal Table

In E3.series there is a terminal table in project mode, in which all terminal strips and terminals are listed. With the help of this terminal table terminals/terminal strips can be more easily edited.

Note

This functionality is not valid for E3.formboard and E3.topology.

Busbar connections are not displayed in the Terminal Table.

Only the names of busbar pins are displayed in terminal tables and terminal plans and not the connection targets.

Displaying the Terminal Table

The Terminal Table can be called up as follows:

  • select the command View -> Terminal Table in the main menu
    or

  • right-click on a terminal or terminal strip symbol or on a connection connected to a terminal and select the context menu command Terminal Table... (see also Setting/Resetting Preselection).
Note: This context menu command is not displayed for a connection line in E3.panel.

The (Excel-like) table always describes one terminal strip per line and is divided into two levels:

  • In the first level (Terminal Strip Level) the device designation of the terminal strip is displayed.
Furthermore, the terminal strip's placement status is displayed with the following valid:

    • Red: No terminals are placed on the terminal strip

    • Yellow: Some terminals are placed on the terminal strip

    • Green: All terminals are placed on the terminal strip

  • In the second level (Terminal Level) the terminal pins as well as additional information (internal/external) regarding the terminal are displayed.
Note: This level can be displayed by clicking on the button and hidden with the button.

By default the columns in the first level (Terminal Strip Level) display the following information:

  • Function

  • Location

  • Product

  • Placement State

Note

These columns cannot be deleted.

By default the columns in the second level (Terminal Level) display the following information:

  • Cable Name

  • Conductor /Wire Name

  • Device Name

  • Pin Name

  • Bridges

  • Terminal Pin Name

  • Signal Name

  • Component Code

  • Position (first placed symbol in the schematic display)

  • Signal Name

  • Terminal Pin Name

  • Bridges

  • Pin Name

  • Device Name

  • Conductor /Wire Name

  • Cable Name

Note

  • These columns cannot be deleted

  • Columns of the type Terminal pin can be changed by double-clicking or clicking the F2 key (Excel-like)

  • Columns with external terminal information are identified by red-colored column headers.

  • Columns with internal terminal information are identified by blue-colored column headers.

All attributes can be displayed within the terminal table depending on the database definition. The following information can be displayed additionally on the terminal level:

  • Position in panel

  • Component type

  • Wire color

  • Wire cross section

  • Wire length

  • Outer diameter

Global Search in the Terminal Table

It's possible to perform a global search in the Terminal Table. In doing so, all columns on the terminal strip level are searched.

To start the search
  • right-click on one of the two uppermost cells in the first column of the window and select the command Search
    or
    click the F7 key

  • The Searchdialog window opens:

Search

OK / Cancel

The term to be searched in the table can be entered in the text field.

Note

A question mark ? (for an individual character) and an asterisk * (for several characters) can be used as wildcards for the search.

Boolean expressions can also be used for filtering.

The following syntax operators are allowed:

  • & AND conjunction

  • | OR conjunction

  • ! NOT conjunction

  • () nesting

With a backslash \ the operators can be masked so that this exact character is found (Example: \&).

OK executes the search.

Cancel aborts the search.

All results are displayed in the project, where this search entry appears. Furthermore, the search term is enclosed in brackets after the Terminal Table header:

To reset the search
  • right-click on one of the two uppermost cells in the first column and select the command Reset Search
or click on the key combination SHIFT + F7

Terminal Table Settings

It's possible to define settings valid for the terminal table.

To do so, there is the category Terminal Table under Placement in the Settings:

Adding Terminals to the Terminal Table

To add a terminal directly from the tree view (database tree/device tree) to the terminal table:

  • drag the desired terminal from the tree view to the terminal table

  • the terminal appears at the position in the terminal strip where it was dropped

    • If the terminal is placed on the terminal strip level, the terminal appears at the last position in the terminal strip:

    • If the terminal is placed on an existing terminal in the terminal strip, it is placed in front of that terminal:

Moving Terminals in the Terminal Table

It's also possible to move a terminal within a terminal strip or to another terminal strip.

To do so, press and hold the left mouse button on the first column of the desired terminal in the terminal table.

Note

A small rectangle appears.

Drag the terminal to the desired position in this or another terminal strip.

Note

If the terminal is moved directly on the terminal strip level, it appears at the last position in this terminal strip.

Note

  • The check box Optimize placement after changes must be active (under Panel in the Settings)

  • The selected terminal may not be locked.

Placing Conductors in the Terminal Table

Conductors /wires/cables can be placed directly on a terminal in the terminal table.

To do so, drag the desired object (conductor /wire/cable) from the tree view (Device tree - Not placed/ Database tree) onto the desired terminal (terminal level) in the Terminal Table.

Note

  • The cross-section restrictions must be fulfilled.

  • If a cable is placed, the cable's conductors are placed in ascending order on all free terminals in the terminal strip.

Context Menu Commands in the Terminal Table

Depending on where one clicks in the Terminal Table, on which level (see Displaying the Terminal Table) and column with the right mouse button, different context menu commands are available:
