Project Properties - Project
To display/modify the properties of the project,
-
right-click on the project name in any Tree View of the Project Window and select the Project Properties... command from the displayed context menu.
The following dialog box appears:
The dialog consists of entry boxes for the addition and modification of project attributes.
Project |
|
---|---|
File Name |
The File Name field displays the name of the project file, including the directory path.
In case the project is a multi-user project and it is assigned a certain lifecycle, this is displayed after the project name (see also: Defining Lifecycles in Multi-User). |
Structure Template File |
A structure template file (XML file) can be selected to change the configuration of the project tree.
The Select File dialog appears when pressing the selection button and the desired structure template (XML file) can be selected.
After selecting a structure, the tree display has to be defined.
When loading a structure template into an existing project, some devices and sheets might collide, if their current attributes do not correspond to the new structure definition. In this case, the system displays a corresponding message and the affected objects are listed in the Results window. The user can then decide whether to use the new structure.
The following attribute owners are used to structure projects:
NoteTo structure projects from E3.series version 2022, Build 23.00 on using attributes, all attributes used in the structure template file need to have the owner Busbar assigned.
ExampleWhen the structure template file defines that projects are structured using the attribute Subproject, this attribute must have assigned the owners Structure node, Sheet, Cable, Connector, Device, Block connector, Hose/tube and Busbar in the database.
The current structure can also be saved in the template file and consequently used as default for a new project.
NoteWhen subsequent changes have been executed in the structure template file, they must be updated by using the button Reload.

Reload |
Click on this button to update the currently defined or modified structure template file. |
Name |
The Name fields display additional information that can be associated with a Project, e.g. Project Number, Customer, etc. To add additional attributes, select the empty Name field and a drop-down list box appears, displaying all of the available attributes for the project, from which a selection can be made. |
Entry |
The Entry fields of the table allow you to enter corresponding information directly into the field or to select existing entries from a drop-down list and to modify them if required. The list displays all entries defined for that attribute within the project. |
To delete an attribute, right-click on the left (gray) column of the table and select the Delete Attributes... command from the displayed context menu.
Reading and Writing Windows File Summary
In Windows it is possible using File -> Properties -> Summary to see, change, search and filter global settings (small project management) of a file (title, subject, author,...).
These global file settings can correspondingly be handled in E3.series using the Project Properties....
The following internal attributes can be exported and/or imported as file summary:
-
Title (.FILEINFO_TITLE)
-
Subject (.FILEINFO_SUBJECT)
-
Category (.FILEINFO_CATEGORY)
-
Keywords (.FILEINFO_KEYWORDS)
-
Comment (.FILEINFO_COMMENTS)
Additionally, the following properties are written when saving an E3.series project:
-
Source with which the project has been created (e.g. E3.cable)
-
Author, i.e. the Windows user logged in
-
Version with which the project has been created (e.g. E3.series 6, 2004, 199, 3)
These 3 properties are, however, not analyzed when reading the file!
Note
Generally all properties are only listed in file operations in NTFS file systems. They get lost when saving on FAT systems or even concerning some Pack programs.
When opening an *.e3s file the data is read out and the values are stored in the internal attributes.
When saving an *.e3s file internal attributes are written again.
