E3.series is used by global leaders in the manufacturing industry to generate large and demanding electrical cabling, control cabinet, and wire harness designs for advanced applications in machinery, power, automotive, transportation, and aerospace and defense industries.
In addition to numerous scheduled improvements for easier operation, E3.series 2020 features significant enhancements in the areas of tabular editing, the embedding of office documents, 3D cabinet layout, and 3D PDF support.
New User Interface
In the E3.series 2020 release, the user interface has been updated with new technology and icons. While harmonizing all Zuken tools, the layout and icons have been unified so that all users can quickly find their way around the Zuken environment. The new interface is based on a new library, the BCG ControlBar.
Embedding of OLE Objects
A major innovation in Release 2020 is the embedding of OLE objects (Object Linking Embedding). A new or existing OLE object can now be directly inserted on a schematic sheet. The Microsoft Office programs are particularly common here. These projects can be opened or edited via Drag&Drop.
Calculation sheets from Excel files can be visualized on a schematic sheet. All Excel functions are available and the data can be adapted from within E3.series. In the end, the embedded objects are included in the printout or can be excluded if necessary.
Tabular search, filtering, and editing
In release 2020, the comprehensive tabular editing capabilities of E3.series have been extended to include additional listings. Tabular editing is a hallmark of Zuken’s E3.series as it enables consistent search, modification and update of designs without having to navigate through multiple sheets. In the new release, the tabular representation, filtering and editing capabilities of E3.series have been extended to include active pin terminals and wire seals. Additionally, previously separated search operations were combined into one single Boolean search function covering multiple device, sheet, and connection lists.
Global Search with Boolean Expressions
Another new feature is the global search with Boolean expressions. A very powerful and fast search function, available in device table, sheet table, pin table, connection table, and translation table (DBE). Users can enter a search term via the context menu and quickly find out whether a term is contained in Description in Component Code, in the function text, or in another column.

Permanent Properties Window
Instant visibility of all device properties on the schematic is provided through a new permanent properties window that is opened whenever a component or a component selection is selected. cabinet.
3D Cabinet Layout
Multiple Component Placement Directions
To support the requirements of cabinet planning and building, the component placement functionality of E3.panel, the 2D/3D cabinet layout application of E3.series, has been extended to support multiple component placement directions. With E3.panel electrical engineers can add comprehensive electrical intelligence to imported 3D panel geometries (STEP format), including component placement and wire routing. In release 2020, mounting rails and terminal blocks can be placed in any direction so that mounting slots can be added in a 3D-representation both on the inside and the outside the cabinet enclosure. For documentation purposes, the 3D views can be flattened to 2D drawings and combined on one single sheet.
Dynamic Contours in Cabinet Layouts
To enable an efficient planning of customized or small production batch cabinets, cut-out areas, drill holes and restricted areas can now be created and edited directly in the project independent of the database model definition
3D PDF Documentation
To enable the digital documentation of 3D cabinet layouts for documentation and service purposes, E3.panel designs can be exported to fully interactive 3D PDF models including device structure information that can be interactively manipulated, measured and interrogated.
E3.series is a true concurrent electrical engineering environment supporting advanced requirements for electrical documentation, cabinet and wire harness design and manufacturing outputs.
E3.cable extends the functionality of E3.schematic enabling individual conductors to be combined together in the design to form cables and harnesses.
E3.panel allows engineers to layout components inside panel enclosures in both 3D and 2D. Intelligent automatic snapping points allow parts to be easily placed in their correct location. Clashes can be prevented with keep-out and height restrictions.
E3.panel+ enables automatic wire routing within the panel enclosure. Connectivity data from the schematic is automatically available in the panel design, and a shortest route algorithm routes the wires through cable ducts.
