Define Connection Types

To define the type of connection to be used when connecting pins, E3.series tries to determine the correct type depending on a global flag and the symbols, representing the pins, to be connected.

The global flag can be set by selecting the corresponding button on the Connect Toolbar or the Settings -> Connection -> Signals -> Signals on Connection command.

Depending on this flag, E3.series always tries to insert individual connections with signal (blue) or without a signal (black).

There are a few rules:

  • Black prevails

If you connect to a connection with a signal (blue), the new connection will become black, regardless of the global flag.

  • Multiple prevails

If you connect to a symbol pin, which represents more than one physical pin, the new connection will become black and dotted

  • Recalculate on deletion

If a net looses connections or symbols by deletion, the connection type will be recalculated:

    • If there is no multi-pin symbol, all connections of the net will become individual connection lines and are drawn as solid lines.

    • If the global flag is set to 'create signals' and a connection is deleted, the remaining parts of the net will be recalculated to determine a signal name: If only single pins are connected and all the pins carry the same signal, the connection will become blue.

  • No signal between additional views of connector devices

You can connect connector device pins in any way to show whatever you want. But none of these connection lines and nets will define physical connections between the pins (they are always black and carry no signal). Physical connections between connector device pins can only be defined between base view symbols of such devices.
