Notes
  • The context menu of a file in the sheet tree contains commands from the Explorer context menu, for example Open, Open With, Delete and Edit, as well as commands directly offered by E3.series. These commands are separated by those from the Explorer's context menu.

  • Multi-selection of such files is possible, however, the commands from the Explorer context menu apply only to files that are located in the same directory as the first selected file. In order to delete an embedded file, the command Delete must be selected from the Explorer context menu.

  • The following commands can be executed by E3.series, when files are directly embedded in E3.series:

    • Open: This command opens the file and can be selected, if the file is not read-only.

    • Open read only: This command opens the file read-only and can be selected, if the file is opened read-only or not yet opened. Changes to the opened file cannot be saved.

    • Close: This command closes the file and can be selected, if the file is opened. If the file is opened without write protection, a message appears.

When a read-only file is closed, all temporary changes are discarded.

When a file without write protection is closed, saved changes are updated in the original file.

  • Regarding certain file types (e.g. text files), E3.series cannot determine whether the file is already opened. For these file types the Open read only command is available. The command Close is available for those files only if the file is opened read-only.

  • If an Excel file is opened using the Open read only command, the system generates a copy of the file as temporary file and closes it immediately. The file remains visible in the Excel application.

When the file in E3.series is then closed by Close and reopened by Open, the file is not recognized as opened by the operating system. Changes to the file cannot be saved in E3.series in this status.

  • Double-click on the file to start the application, assigned to the file type. A temporary file is written, if the file was not embedded as reference.

  • When storing the project as *.e3s or *.e3d file, the current data from those files are read, that are not embedded as reference. If a file is opened at this time, the user has still the possibility of storing and closing it.
