Insert and Remove Conductors

To remove conductors from a cable

  • right-click on the conductor in the Device Tree View of the Project Window and select Delete on the displayed context menu or

  • select the conductor and simply press the Del key on the keyboard

If the cable has a cable-type assignment, the user has to confirm deletion of the conductors. If one, or several, of the selected conductors are connected to a pin, the user is also prompted to confirm deletion of the connected conductors.

In this case, all selected conductors will be deleted, otherwise only the ones that are not connected will be deleted. Once a conductor is deleted, the cable is no longer assigned to the original cable type.

To add conductors to an existing cable,

  • drag the conductor from the Device Tree View onto the sheet (no dialog box is displayed), or

  • right-click on a cable, conductor or shield in the Device Tree View of the Project Window and select Insert Conductors... on the displayed context menu.

The following dialog box will be displayed:

Insert Conductors

Device Designation

Displays the device designation of the cable.

Higher Level Assignment

Displays the Higher Level Assignment of the cable.

Location

Defines the Location of the cable.

Number of conductors

The number of conductors to be added can be defined by entering a number in the field or by using the up - down arrows, next to the input window.

Each individual conductor is given a number according to the number of conductors entered. The Number of Conductors field becomes inactive when changes are made to the makeup of the Cable in the Conductors section of the dialog.

Although it is now impossible to make changes, the correct number of conductors will still be displayed during modifications in the conductor list.

Conductors

Displays the number of conductors to be added to the cable.

The names and number of conductors to be added can be defined dynamically in the Conductorssection of the dialog box, instead of just selecting the number of conductors to be added in the 'Number of conductors' field.

Conductors names (numbers) can be modified by double-clicking on them or using the F2 key on the selected conductor.

To insert a new conductor click the Insert button .

To change the conductor arrangement select the desired conductor and move it up or down using the corresponding arrow buttons ( and ).

The names of the conductors and their correct order are shown. As described above, the contents may be preset by defining the number of conductors in the Number of Conductors field.

The numeric values automatically entered can be changed as required. To do so, double-click on the desired conductor name and a new name can be entered. Existing names can be edited in the same manner.

It is also possible to immediately begin typing the conductor names without previously specifying the number of conductors. To do so, the cursor must be positioned beneath the last entry in the list (using the mouse or Cursor Down keys) and the new conductor name can be entered.

The new entry or any existing entry can easily be moved to another position within the list by a simple Drag&Drop action or by use of the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

The functions

  • adding a new conductor,

  • deleting a conductor and

  • moving a conductor

can also be activated using the two buttons at the top of the list box. Moreover, the Ins or Del keys can also be used for adding or deleting conductors.

Insert Position

The relative insertion point is shown here.

In case where an individual conductor was selected in the Device Tree View, the user has the option to insert conductors before or after the selected conductor by means of the following options:

  • Insert before

  • Insert after

In the case where a cable was selected in the Device Tree View, the user has the option to insert conductors at the beginning or end of a cable by means of the following options:

  • Insert first conductors of cable

  • Insert at the end of cable

For shield symbols, only the 'Insert after' option is active. The conductor is inserted as the first conductor in the related hierarchy under that shield.

Unassign cable from cable type?

If the cable has been assigned a cable type from the database, then the structure of the cable cannot be changed by adding conductors. Hence, all entry boxes are inactive apart from the Unassign cable from cable type checkbox.

Checking it will remove the assignment, and activate the related entry boxes, so that changes can be made to the structure of the cable.
