Export Drawing

To export a drawing or part of a drawing,

  • select the File -> Export -> Drawing... command from the Main Menu bar, or

  • right-click on a folder or an individual sheet in the Sheet View of the Project Window and select the Export Drawing... command on the displayed context menu.

When the command is activated on an individual sheet name, this sheet is already entered in the dialog box as the sheet to be exported. Activating the command on a folder name selects all sheets below that level for export. Multiple sheets can be selected for export by using the CTRL and/or SHIFT keys when selecting the sheets.

The following dialog box is displayed:

The system always starts the dialog in the directory defined in the Settings' Default Directory page.

Before leaving the dialog box, the entries are verified. If they are not correct, an error message is displayed and the dialog box cannot be closed.

Export Drawing

Save in

Allows you to select drive and folder where you want to save the file.

File name

Enter a name for the file in File name.

Save as type

The default extension is *.e3p.

Export Range

All

Select this option to export all of the sheets. For All, the Include sheet border checkbox is inactive.

Current Sheet

Select this option to export the current sheet only. For Current Sheet, the Include sheet border checkbox is inactive.

Sheets

Select this option to export one or several sheets. In the associated text box enter the number of the sheet(s) to be exported separated by semicolons or for a sequence of sheets enter the number of the first and last sheet separated by a '-'.

If the command Export Drawing... is directly activated on a folder in the Sheet tree view of the Project window using the context menu, the system automatically enters the respective sheets in this folder.

The data of one, several or all sheets are saved without the corresponding sheet formats. When the drawings are imported again, the sheets are created with the corresponding default sheet format.

For Sheets, the Include sheet border checkbox is inactive.

Structure node

Select this option to export all devices belonging to a structure node (not only the corresponding sheets and the devices placed thereon).

Selection

Use this option to export drawings along with their sheet formats.

The drawing along with the sheet format and sheet information are saved. This means, a complete sheet is created when importing the data and cannot be placed on an existing sheet.

For Selection, the Include sheet border checkbox is active.

Options

Include sheet border

This option determines whether the selected drawing is to be saved as a complete set of sheets along with its corresponding sheet texts and sheet formats, or if only the sheet contents are to be saved.

If the option is un-checked, the data of one, several or all sheets are saved without the corresponding sheet formats. When the drawings are imported again, the sheets are created with the corresponding default sheet format.

For All and Sheets, the Include sheet border checkbox is inactive, for Selection, it is active.

Devices only

Activate this checkbox to output component/cable information only, i.e. without any placement information.

If this option is applied to selected objects, the complete component is written to the file as unplaced.

There are two restrictions:

  • As blocks cannot be used as pure devices without a symbol, block connectors are output as normal connectors.

  • Devices without a component code are saved as 'devices without structure'. This means, the symbols are lost, because E3.series does not allow unplaced symbols to be saved.

Cables/wires

These settings are also available in Tools -> Settings -> Placement -> Export / Copy.

When this option is checked, cables and wires are also copied.

When this option is unchecked, cables and wires are not copied.

When for example copying a symbol to which a cable is attached, the cable is also copied. Thus it is possible that several cables placed on one side are created. The user often doesn't recognize this.

At least one connected end selected

The cable and/or the wire is copied when at least one connected end is selected.

Both connected ends selected

The cable and/or the wire is copied, when both connected ends are selected.

Both ends and the path are selected

The cable and/or the wire is copied, when both ends and the complete cores (all line segments of sheets ends) are selected.

Full path is selected

The cable and/or the wire is copied, when the complete connect line is selected, on which a conductor of the cable or the wire is placed.

Export busbars

When this option is checked, busbars are also output upon exporting.

When this option is unchecked, busbars are not output.

All pins in path selected

When this option is checked, busbars are output upon exporting only if all pins and net segments of the busbar are selected.

Export structure nodes

Check this option to export structure nodes and their attributes.

Notes

  • The structure template file must have the same content as the file to be imported

  • When the same structure attributes are given in the sub-circuit to be imported as in the opened project, the following is valid:

    • When no entries are defined in project for the structure node attribute, the values of the imported sub-circuit will be inherited to all sub-elements
    • When entries are defined in project for the structure node attribute, they will remain

Export plugging information for pluggings without graphical representation

Check this option to include unplaced plugging information when exporting subcircuits.

Export unplaced devices

Check this option to includecompletely unplaced devices when exporting.

This option is only active, when the complete project is exported (i.e. the all option is active).

Export unplaced terminals

Check this option to include completely unplaced terminals when exporting.

This option is only active, when the complete project is exported (i.e. the all option is active).

Export all devices of a selected assembly

Check this option to export all devices of a selected assembly. Only symbols that are exported are saved as placed all other devices/symbols of the assembly are unplaced.

Export all terminals of a selected terminal strip

Check this option to export all terminals of a terminal strip when exporting or copying symbols and sheets within a project or between projects. Only terminals that are exported are saved as placed, all other terminals of the terminal strip are unplaced.

Export hierarchical block with substructures

Activate this option to export hierarchical blocks with all connectors and ports as well as all underlying sheets and hierarchical structures with their entire contents.

Group objects

Check this option to group the previously selected objects and export them as subcircuit. This option can be activated, when the selected objects are not yet grouped.

Objects that are already grouped in the drawing are automatically written to the subcircuit as a group, thus this option is redundant in this case.

Note

When subcircuits are exported that have at least one duplicate object ID, new object IDs are assigned in the exported subcircuit. Please consider the corresponding message in E3.series.

Attention

In DBE mode selected objects can only be exported as *.e3p file.

If nothing has been selected, the command File -> Export -> Drawing... is inactive; otherwise only the option Export Range: Selection is activated in the dialog box.
