Defining Preview Symbols for Components

Preview symbols are displayed in the Preview window when selecting a component or device in the Database or Project tree view.

 

It's possible to define a special preview symbol for the following component types when editing in DBE mode:

  • Connectors

  • Components

  • Cables

  • Blocks

  • Subcircuits

  • Assemblies

  • Hoses

  • Tubes

  • Wire groups

  • Connectors

  • Devices

  • Cables

  • Terminal

 

To define or change a preview symbol for any desired component, proceed as follows,

  • right-click on a component in the component tree of the Database Editor and select New Component or Edit from the displayed context menu.

  • Afterwards, select the corresponding component on the component sheet or in the Project Window of the Database Editor and then select the Component Propertiesor Properties from the displayed context menu.

  • Select the desired Preview symbol in the displayed dialog:

Any symbol can be selected from the selection list or using the button.

A database tree structure for selecting a symbol is opened using the button. This Select symbol dialog shows all symbols, which correspond with the criteria defined in the Configure symbol search... dialog.

 

Note

If this preview symbol shouldn't be visible in the project database tree, this can be defined by selecting the Don't show this symbol in Project Database Tree option when editing a symbol in the Database Editor.

 

If a component or a device is selected in a tree view and a preview symbol has been defined for this component, then this is displayed in the preview window.

 

If no preview symbol is defined, the first symbol placed is used for the preview.

 

For this reason, symbols can, for example, be defined in the database with corresponding symbol graphics, which can then be used afterwards as preview symbols.
