To manage the number of projects or sub projects they can be classified into categories based on the product area, Technology area, industry segment, and even risk or any other parameter which will make sense for your company. One project class doesn't fit all when it comes to managing projects in larger teams. The amount of documentation and required project management activities must scale to the size of the project. This process allows project managers to determine the level of project management rigor a project might require, e.g., level of detail for project charter, project management plan, status report and work breakdown structure.
