RF System Design & Verification

CR-5000 System Designer can be linked with ADS, Agilent Technologies' RF high-frequency design tool, for the realization of high quality boards containing both baseband and RF circuits. Components are selected from the CR-5000 database to ensure consistency and bi-directional linking between the schematic data from System Designer and ADS/Schematic. Back-annotation of design modifications in ADS/Schematic can be implements in System Designer's original schematics.

RF Physical Design & Verification

CR-5000 Board Designer can also be linked with ADS. The tool provides layout data conversion in which distributed constant circuits are created by converting lines into transmission line components. Conversion to surface data for use in electromagnetic field simulation is also supported.

Data files are exported to create an ADS component database. These files are then used in the creation and updating of component databases in the ADS design kit. IFF files (an intermediate data format) are exported using layout data created with Board Designer and two output modes are provided: one for circuit simulator mode and the other for Momentum mode. In circuit simulator mode parameters for each transmission line component model are extracted from the line shapes created using Board Designer and also from layer configuration information and material information set for the PCB.

Momentum mode supports IFF output using surface data with the shapes of layout data from Board Designer faithfully maintained. A range of functions are provided to reduce set-up time and complexity, including the ability to export information such as layer configuration and material setting files from Board Designer for use in Momentum simulation. In addition, there is support for automatic generation of ports on component terminal points, conversion of ground vias into slit format and setting of arc resolution.
