UCLA Engineering has established the Center for Heterogeneous Integration and Performance Scaling (CHIPS) to address the dramatic changes taking place in the electronic hardware arena. The immense cost of semiconductor development and manufacturing, together with the saturation in cost-power-performance metrics, has led to a consolidation of semiconductor fabrication into mega foundries. Even more far-reaching is a similar consolidation in the chip-design area. Computing paradigms are evolving as systems become more data centric and heterogeneous. This calls for a fundamental re-thinking of IC design and manufacture.

The Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Padua represents a strategic pole for research, training and technology transfer in several areas of Engineering (Aerospace, Chemistry, Electrical, Energy, Materials and Mechanics). Founded in 2012, the Department descends from six independent Departments. The history of the Department of Industrial Engineering begins between 1867 and 1871, when the School of Applications for Engineers was established. It was within the School that the teachings and scientific cabinets relating to several research areas of current industrial engineering were initiated.

Formula SAE project is an international car competition for universities that involves conceiving, designing, presenting and driving on the track an open-wheeled single-seater built according to international regulations. The car project, presented by the teams of university students at the International Events of the competition, is assessed by a jury of experts from various sectors of the automotive industry and Motorsport. The competition is not won by the Team with the fastest car on the track, but by the Team that presents the most balanced single-seater car in terms of performance, cost, construction accuracy, maintainability, manufacturability and usability for an audience of non-professional drivers.

The University of Padova has been participating in the Formula SAE competition with a team of students (the RaceUP Team of Padua) since 2006. The University of Padova recognizes the highly educational value of this project because it encourages students to develop and expand the knowledge gained during their degree course and to acquire additional soft skills in demand in the world of work, including project planning, team working and problem solving.
