Second Component Name

You can now add two PCB component names so they can exist in different locations on different layers e.g. Silkscreen and Assembly layers. Both the Component Name and the Component Name 2 will show the Same Name, that being the name given to the Component in a design.

The position of the second component name defaults to the Component origin. All the properties of the second component name can be controlled by adding a component name 2 origin when editing a component, which can be achieved in a number of ways:

  •  A second component name can be positioned when editing a component by adding a component name 2 origin.

Once added it can be positioned using the mouse in the same way other component origins can be.

  • Or it can be positioned relative to an existing origin by using the PCB Component Library Modify Symbol Origins dialog supports the new ‘Component Name 2’ Origin.

This is especially useful when using the second component name feature to replace user defined origins that perform the same or a similar purpose.

Note : It is recommended that this upgrade process be performed in the component  library for all affected components and that the components are reloaded with their origins reset in the relevant designs.

A new section has been added to the Colours dialog to control the visibility of the second component name.
